The Empty Chair

Empty rooms

Full of laughter

Children

Food and coffee

Talking

Running

Family bodies

But empty of you.

Our sadness sits upon the chair

In the family room

We see it there, we glance at it

It makes a sonic boom

Sometimes we talk about you there

Our missing patriarch

But mostly we just leave the chair

And grieve you in our hearts.
